Dr Janet Barter
Dr Janet Barter is the Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinical Lead for the London Sexual Health Programme, bringing more than 30 years’ experience across sexual and reproductive health, women’s health, gynaecology, contraception, abortion care, sexual wellbeing, menopause and medical education.
She is a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health at Barts Health, where she leads a Women’s Health Hub in Tower Hamlets, and is a former President of the College of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare.
Throughout her career, Janet has combined clinical leadership with a strong commitment to advocacy, policy development and cross-specialty collaboration. She has extensive experience working with policymakers, professional bodies and the media to champion improvements in sexual and reproductive healthcare. Central to her work is the belief that everyone should have access to compassionate, person-centred care and information, delivered in ways that are inclusive, accessible and responsive to people's needs.
Janet is a passionate advocate for workforce development and innovation, supporting healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care while embracing new approaches and technologies that can improve outcomes and patient experience.
She is committed to improving access to equitable, joined-up sexual and reproductive healthcare and is playing a key role in shaping London’s new HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy.
