CoSRH launches pioneering reports on post-pregnancy contraception

The London Sexual Health Programme was delighted to celebrate the launch of the College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (CoSRH) at the House of Commons, alongside the unveiling of two ground breaking reports on post-pregnancy contraception (PPC).

The reports mark an important step forward in improving access to contraception after pregnancy:

  • Beyond Barriers: Reimagining Access to Post-Pregnancy Contraception – A Guide for Best Practice provides practical models for local service delivery that can be replicated across the country.

  • Beyond Barriers: Reimagining Access to Post-Pregnancy Contraception – The Case for Change outlines the strategic, policy, and funding actions needed nationally to drive system-wide improvements.

Speakers highlighted why this work is so vital. Professor Ranee Thakar reminded attendees that contraception should be offered when it is crucial, not just when it is convenient. Baroness Liz Sugg shared her dedication to advancing women’s health, and Dr Janet Barter emphasised the importance of removing barriers to access.

A particularly special moment was hearing Dr Zara Haider reflect on the College’s 30-year journey from faculty to college and being warmly welcomed as its new President, following Dr Janet Barter’s impactful three years of leadership.

In support of this vital work, the London Sexual Health Programme has signed an open letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting MP. The letter underlines the importance of PPC provision and calls on Government to take the necessary steps to ensure access for all women after pregnancy.

The LSHP congratulates CoSRH on this milestone and celebrates everyone working tirelessly to improve reproductive health outcomes and end inequalities.
