We Brought STI Testing to Grindr – Here's What Happened

What if you could order an STI test as easily as you check your dating apps?

That’s exactly what The Love Tank CIC, Grindr, and Sexual Health London (SHL) did, launching a pilot project using pop-up messages within Grindr to offer free postal STI test kits to users.

Between July and December 2024, more than 2,400 Grindr users accessed the online testing service. Most were gay, bisexual, or men who have sex with men (GBMSM), and nearly 40% lived in areas with the highest levels of deprivation.  This shows that this approach helped reach people who may otherwise face barriers to testing.

The project also engaged a diverse audience, with meaningful representation from Asian, Black, and other minoritized communities.

This pilot is proof that by meeting people where they are, on the platforms they already use, we can improve health access and equity.
